Confined Space Entry and Rescue Operation

The hazards associated with confined spaces in the workplace are well documented. Accidental occur regularly. They can, however, be prevented. Workers are made aware of hazards specific to confined spaces. They will gain a comprehensive knowledge and acquire tools to plan minimize hazards. Participants learn how to interpret and comply with legislated confined Space regulations.

Learning Objectives

To provide descriptive guidelines and accurate applications, with current equipment availability and regulatory influences, for leadership in the construction industry to apply towards activities and practices in their working environment.

Participants will be able to recognize and mitigate Confined Space hazards through a hierarchy of hazard controls and will have a basic understanding of the following:
· Overview of  permit-required confined space entry standards (general industry or construction)
· Definitions of key terms
· Health and safety hazards associated with confined space work
· Identifying which confined spaces are permit-required
· Requirements for reclassification of permit spaces to non-permit
·  Alternate entry procedures for select permit-required confined spaces
· Signage requirements
· Elements of a written confined space entry program
· The entry permit
· Duties of entrants, attendants and entry supervisors
· Confined rescue requirements
· Requirements for dealing with on-site contractors
· Personal protective equipment requirements
· Identifying and measuring atmospheric hazards
· Ventilation techniques
